As highlighted in the July-August issue of THE STANDARD, the TG3 Technology Group is issuing Proposed Standard ballots on three ATSC 3.0 Candidate Standards while wrapping up voting on the A/322 Physical Layer Proposed Standard. A number of other documents are expected to move towards ballot for Proposed Standard in August and September.

Digital television pioneer WRAL-TV, Capitol Broadcasting’s NBC affiliate in Raleigh-Durham, N.C., launched its new ATSC 3.0 TV station with the nation’s first live simulcast of a commercially licensed television station.

In another key milestone in the ATSC 3.0 standards-development process, the ATSC conducted the first comprehensive comparisons of high-dynamic range (HDR) proposals for ATSC 3.0 next-gen TV. The goal of the two-day event in late June was to provide a forum for demonstrations and evaluations of the various proposed HDR technologies for the ATSC 3.0 video standard.

The Advanced Television Systems Committee, Inc., is an international, non-profit organization developing voluntary standards and recommended practices for digital terrestrial broadcasting. ATSC member organizations represent the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite, and semiconductor industries. ATSC also develops digital terrestrial broadcasting implementation strategies and supports educational activities on ATSC standards.
